It’s amazing that even though situated in a salty-water area, this square-bottom well provides clear fresh water all year round. Enjoyable extras include white-sand, pristine beaches and captivating attractions evocatively. Tourists can relax, go hunting and fishing – even fishing octopuses.

The island has about 3.000 residents, focused around Lang and Huong beaches and involved in fishing and agriculture. A small part of the villagers work in service and handicraft. Lang Village seems to be crowded. After a short visit to the exhibition room featuring artifacts found on sunken ships off Cham Island, guests flock to the small fishing village. Almost all villagers can catch “cua da”, the crab that lives in springs and is tastier than marine crabs. Crabs are for sale in iron baskets in front of every house, together with dried and spiced fish, dried squid and banh it, a local specialty that is made of culaocham4sticky rice flour and green beans.

Islanders have learned how to provide hospitality services rapidly. Tour guides often take guests to the large coral reef located off the eastern part of the island. They show them how to dive to see coral, catch lobsters, spear groupers, and look for rare shellfish and small, colorful fishes.
Cu Lao Cham is also home to salanganes, birds whose nests have long been considered a delicacy by aristocrats and the wealthy. The nests may cost as much as US $4,000 per kilogram. In a beautiful day, tourists are able to see cliffs where salanganes build their nests and talk with salangane-nest takers.
