  • Phu My port is about 55km from Vung Tau city and 90km from Ho Chi Minh City.
  • It is about 2 hours to drive from Phu My Port to Ho Chi Minh city, a bit less to come back because the traffic is better in the afternoon. There are taxis outside the port BUT they don’t all have port permits so you will have to make your way to the street. It is a long walk to the main road through a wasteland waiting to be developed. Most of taxi drivers don’t speak and understand English. You should write destination name on paper and show them
  • The ship offer shuttle bus to Ho Chi Minh: 59 USD/ 1 pax but it starts normally later (9 AM) so it leaves you even less time in Saigon. The ship only provide transportation, no guide, no meal.

What is the fastest way to get to Ho Chi Minh City

You are looking at time. Fast boats (hydrofoils) are subject to a time table which implies hanging around unless you are lucky to arrive just as one is about to leave.

The best way to get to Ho Chi Minh City is take a taxi or book with ship. You can also have a private car and guide to collect you if you don’t want a joined basic tour. However, this needs to be booked beforehand as entering the port requires heap of procedures. The travel agency has to settle these paper works very early to get the entrance permit.

The only thing that you can share to save the cost is the car and guide. The drive is about 2-2,5 hours from the port to Saigon.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

• Be advised that the Vietnam tour guides require your passport details in advance to arrange port passes.
• The permit to pick tourists up at the port is compulsory to the company if tourists want to be safe and legal. Expecting to pay 25-30 USD/person for port fees. If not, you need to walk outside of the port.
